This seascape marks a gradual shift in Sophie Cagniart's practice from the wearable towards textile installation.
Created using the nui shibori technique and naturally dyed in indigo, the work explores the emergence, disappearance and transformation of imagery within the textile surface.

Reclaimed antique sheets, traditional boutis

Made from reclaimed antique sheets, this textile work reinterprets the traditional Provençal technique of boutis through a contemporary graphic language. Historical craftsmanship is combined with patterns inspired by Japanese Sashiko, bringing together two distinct textile traditions through texture, repetition and handwork.
Nui Shibori / Indigo Studies

A series of textile studies exploring pattern through nui shibori and natural indigo. By stitching, gathering and binding the fabric before dyeing, patterns emerge through the tension between concealment and revelation.
Koi / Denim Jacket
2024
A custom denim jacket developed from reclaimed jeans belonging to the client. Sophie Cagniart created a hand-embroidered koi and wave composition using Sashiko-inspired techniques, building layers of texture, colour and contrast to give the imagery a dimensional quality.
Sashiko Shirt
2024
A custom shirt developed from the idea of translating Sashiko into a more spontaneous, graffiti-like visual language. Traditional motifs are retained but loosened and allowed to overlap, creating a dense embroidered surface that moves between structure and improvisation.
