Advanced Sashiko Workshop
UK & EUROPE
Embroider the iconic Japanese Tobi Asanoha pattern and transform your work into
a Furoshiki-style bag, wall hanging, or scarf.

The Tobi Asanoha pattern meaning
“hemp leaf”, has been used in Japanese textiles for centuries. Geometric and radiant,
the design is made from overlapping diamonds that radiate outward in six directions, echoing the structure of the hemp plant.
As a Moyozashi sashiko pattern, Asanoha is built from a series of continuous, flowing lines that interlock across a grid, requiring focus, precision,
and a practiced stitch rhythm.
It’s seen as a symbol of vitality, growth, and protection.
This is an ideal pattern for those ready to deepen their understanding of Sashiko’s structure, flow, and cultural roots.
This workshop is designed for those who have completed my Beginner Sashiko Workshop or who already have a basic understanding of Sashiko stitching.
Over the course of three live online sessions,
we’ll dive deeper into Japanese hand embroidery and slowly bring to life the Tobi Asanoha (hemp leaf) pattern, one of the most iconic and beloved Moyozashi (continuous line) sashiko designs.
The project is meditative, challenging in a
deeply satisfying way, and rewarding :
a large, hand-stitched textile that you can wear, display, or use, thanks to the Japanese Furoshiki wrapping technique, which transforms your finished piece into a versatile, soft-structured bag.
