Ribline is a beautifully textured vest designed as the structural anchor of the silhouette, bridging the raw, rugged look of rag weaving with the intricate Japanese Kogin details.
Made entirely by hand, the body of the vest is constructed using a traditional rag-weaving technique.
Reclaimed textile strips are woven thread by thread on the loom into a thick, highly tactile fabric, which is then submerged multiple times in the natural indigo vat. The result is a deeply saturated, uneven blue texture that carries the physical weight and history of its materials.
The design plays with structural contrast and historical craft at the neckline. The collar features dense hand-embroidery in Japanese Sashiko Kogin, a geometric, counted-thread stitch historically used by northern laborers to reinforce fabric against winter winds. This stark white patterning runs along the collar and echoes at the hem, framing the rugged, vibrant indigo weave with crisp, geometric discipline.
The silhouette is clean, heavy, and direct. It is cut to layer effortlessly over lighter pieces like Smockswell, providing a structural frame that stays grounded and holds its shape through movement.
Ribline will develop a beautiful patina over time: the thick ridges of the hand-woven rag strips and the dense surface of the Kogin embroidery will wear differently, naturally softening and fading to reveal a rich, high-contrast landscape of blue and white shaped by your own life.
